6/4-5 Final Exam

The Final Exam Written Portion will be started on 6/4. Due on 6/5 at the time of the Final. Here are the prompts. IV: ESSAY: Answer three of the following in a short essay (5 pts. Each) • 1968 --- Discuss four reasons why the year 1968 was a pivotal year in American history. • Counterculture---Explain who was involved in the counterculture? Was all of mainstream America in the Counterculture?What were the reasons for people dropping out of the mainstream society? What were aspects of the lifestyle? What was a negative aspect of the counterculture? What was a positive aspect of the counterculture? • Space Race--- Explain the importance of the Space Race. Why did the U.S. want to reach the moon? What were the tangible and intangible benefits of the space race to the U.S.? • Politics --- What was the importance of the “Pinnacle of Liberalism”? How did this period in American history change the ways in which we live? Use at least 3 specific examples in your answer. • Civil Rights---Explain the importance of the Civil Rights Movement. What reasons made the civil rights movement successful? What were its failures? What leaders had the most impact? Why was this movement an important catalyst to the turbulent 1960s? • Vietnam---Why did the U.S. get involved in the conflict in Vietnam? What lessons were learned from our role? What legacies came from this war? • Music/Arts---What important developments happened in music and the arts in the 1960s era? Explain the importance of Bob Dylan, the Beatles, the Motown sound, and artists such as Andy Warhol on the era. How did the music mirror the times and the times mirror the music in this era? • Legacies---What were the important legacies of the 1960s on the American society? How did the 1960s change American socially, politically, and in the fields of education and economics?
